The School of Building Engineering Services offers both full-time and part-time programmes of study designed to meet the needs of this highly innovative and fast moving sector of industry. We have extensive links with employers within Wales and further afield.
The delivery of our programmes in Building Engineering Services is across our three main campuses:
The Afan Campus has delivery of our Electrotechnical courses, full-time and part-time from Level 1 to Level 3. We also deliver a Plumbing course full-time at Level 1 and Gas courses part-time at Levels 2 and 3. Both Technical Certificates and NVQs are offered in all areas of our programmes.
The main Campus at Neath is where we deliver full-time Plumbing courses at Levels 1 and 2. These cover a Technical Certificate and NVQ allowing training for practical hand skills that prepare you for the industry sector of both Plumbing and Heating and Ventilation.
Our work-based training is delivered for apprentices at our Craft Training Centre in Llansamlet, Swansea. This is part of a very large training centre which also covers construction courses. The workshops are modernised and now include training in the new Environmental Technologies and Underfloor Heating.
Our Energy Academy, which is also based at our Afan Campus, offers programmes and courses from ACS Gas Safety training and assessment to Energy Efficiency and training on Environmental Technologies. These include Solar Photo-voltaic electrical generation; Wind Turbine electrical generation; Solar Thermal hot water (delivered at Llansamlet); Heat Pump training (delivered at Llansamlet) and Rain Water Harvesting and Grey Water Recycling (delivered at Llansamlet). New technologies that will be coming online shortly include CHP (combined heat and power) systems and Covering.
A full range of Electrotechnical short courses covering Part P Building Regulations; 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (Full and Update courses); Fundamentals of Inspection and Testing L2; Design Verification & Inspection and Testing L3 and Portable Appliance Testing L3 are delivered both on and off campus subject to prearrangements with our electrical staff.
The School of Building Engineering Services offers these programmes of study commencing at Level 1 where no formal entry requirements are stated and to Level 3 up-skilling courses where placement on the programme is by predetermined criteria (which can be provided on request). All courses will include an interview with the Course Co-ordinator.
